Introducing the
Two Bit Contemporary
Thank you to everyone who visited and enjoyed the online gallery.
We exhibited over 240 photos, which is 2 photos from most photographers.
While the online world is closed now, we still have two ways for you to enjoy the gallery.
Be sure to check out the FAQ below.

The Two Bit Contemporary was an idea brought about by Jake Pink (Hot Pink Pixels), drawing inspiration from Jason De Freitas’ Virtual Gallery, who put photos in a minecraft gallery first, but bring that in as the perfect place to show case photos taken with a game. Inside another game!
With an honourable mention to Cat Graffam’s GAME BOY CAMERA GALLERY who also put game boy photos in an actual game boy game. Several of our organisers exhibited in that game.
When deciding what kind of gallery to build, Jake went with making a copy of his local gallery, Nottingham Contemporary.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are submissions closing?
Submissions open 20th December 2024, and close 5th January 2025.
Do I need to take new Photos?
We’ve timed the submission window so that people have time to take photos over the holidays, however we do expect most people to just pick and submit some photos from their archive.
Remember, everyone gets in, so no need to get a ‘better’ photo to ‘beat’ the ‘competition’
What format do I need to upload?
The portal will automatically do everything for you, no matter what size, whether you have scaled it, or edited it.
It then automatically outputs minecraft files for us.
Do I need to upload the original .bmp?
As per the above, you can do, but any format/size is fine.
How many photos should I submit?
Each person can submit up to 3 photos.
How many photos will you use?
We will fill up the gallery entirely, and the number of your photos we use will depend on how many submissions. If we get 128 people submit, everyone will get one photo used, if we get 40 people submit, everyone will get all 3.
Do my photos have to be from the same series or set?
They can be, but don’t feel you need to, we will be theming and curating the galleries to put your photos along side other peoples that are a good fit.
Do I need to have Minecraft?
No! We will be having the gallery ‘open’ and visitable as a public server. However we will also be generating a way for people to just browse the gallery via the web.
Does it matter when I took the photos?
We expect people to just dig into their archive to find some photos to share, however we have timed the open call to coincide with the holidays, in case people want to get out and take some new photos.
When do we hear if our photos got in?
Everyone gets their photos in, once the gallery is ‘Open’ you will be able to visit and browse to see where your photos are.
Are there any photos I can’t submit?
The Minecraft EULA prohibits nudity, so while you can submit it we can’t include this in the Minecraft gallery.
